Usage Note 15692: FILENAME statement URL access method supports only BASIC authentication on a web server
When you attempt to read web server data using the FILENAME statement URL access method, the following error message might occur:
ERROR: Unauthorized to retrieve URL
And if the DEBUG option is used, this message might occur:
NOTE: <<< HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized
The problem occurs even when you supply valid credentials with the USER and PASS options. Using the DEBUG option with the FILENAME statement might show the cause to be the web server's use of an authentication method other than BASIC. Here is an example of the DEBUG line:
NOTE: <<< WWW-Authenticate: NTLM
The FILENAME statement URL access method engine does not properly authenticate to a web server unless the BASIC authentication protocol has been specified.
