Usage Note 15223: SAS continues running after stored process executed and completed
The SAS.EXE associated with a stored process id (usually SASSRV),
continues running after a stored process runs and completes.
This behavior is by design so that there is less startup time the next
time that a stored process is launched.
To circumvent this behavior, you can change the timeout on the stored
process by doing the following:
1. Start the SAS Management Console.
2. Expand the Server Manager.
3. Expand SASMain.
4. Expand the Logical Stored Process Server.
5. Right-click on SASMAIN-Stored Process Server and select
Properties.
6. Select the Options Tab.
7. Click on the Advanced Options button.
8. Select the Load Balancing Properties.
9. Under Inactivity TimeOut (Mins), select the check box and enter
the timeout value that you want to use.
11. The lower the timeout value, the sooner the stored process sas.exe
halts.
You need to balance the lower timeout value with the startup costs
and the amount of traffic on the stored process server itself.
Higher traffic should have higher timeouts.
