Usage Note 14294: A warning message about Japanese (Shift-JIS) encoding occurs when you invoke SAS® (English with DBCS) or SAS® (Japanese)
When you invoke SAS® 9.x with a Japanese (Shift-JIS) session encoding, the following warning message might appear in the SAS® log window:
WARNING: The DM font being used is for the Western character set but the required character set is Japanese (Shift-JIS).
To configure SAS® 9.1 so that the warning message does not appear, follow these steps:
- Make the SAS Explorer window active.
- Select Tools ► Fonts.
- Under Fonts, select a Japanese font.
- Under Script, select Japanese.
- Select OK.
To configure SAS® 9.4 so that the warning message does not appear, follow these steps:
- Make the SAS Explorer window or SAS log window active.
- Select Tools ► Options ► Fonts.
- Under Fonts, select an appropriate font (an example is Thorndale Duospace WT TC).
- Under Script, select Japanese.
- Select OK.

fixed.
