Problem Note 14938: Incorrect control limits with SMETHOD=MVGRANGE and varying subgroup
sizes
If you have varying subgroup sizes in PROC SHEWHART and specify the
OUTLIMITS= and SMETHOD=MVGRANGE options on an XSCHART or XRCHART chart
statement, incorrect limits will be produced on subsequent charts
generated with this LIMITS= data set. If SMETHOD=MVGRANGE is specified,
the control limits on the secondary chart will be missing. While you
should always use the same standard deviation estimation method that was
used to create the limits, if SMETHOD=NOWEIGHT is specified (or
defaulted to by the omission of the SMETHOD= option), the upper and
lower control limits on both the primary and secondary chart will be
incorrect and the central line on the secondary chart will be incorrect.
In a similar situation, if you have varying subgroup sizes in PROC
SHEWHART and specify the OUTLIMITS= and SMETHOD=NOWEIGHT options on an
XSCHART or XRCHART chart statement (or omit the SMETHOD= option so that
the default NOWEIGHT is used), incorrect limits will be produced on
subsequent charts generated with this LIMITS= data set. If
SMETHOD=MVGRANGE is specified, the upper and lower control limits on the
primary chart will be incorrect and the control limits on the secondary
chart will be missing.
There is no circumvention for this problem.
