Usage Note 14686: Long-running SAS Activity-Based Management processes under Microsoft® Windows 2003 Server may halt and cause the application to be inaccessible
When the SAS Activity-Based Management server is running under
Microsoft® Windows 2003 Server, long-running processes, such as
calculation, cube generation, and data imports, can spontaneously halt.
There is no error message evident, but the process has simply ceased to
run. Any attempt to initiate a client connection to the server in this
state will fail. Restarting the SAS Activity-Based Management server
application, using the Reset SAS ABM Server function, will cause the
halted process to resume where it stopped and will restore connectivity
to the server.
This problem is caused by a peculiarity of version 6.0 of Internet
Information Services (IIS) that automatically recycles a process after a
period of no interaction from the client application.
The hot fix contravenes the behavior of IIS and prevents long-running
processes from halting.
