Usage Note 14406: "Error: The Service Name is invalid" when working with the object
spawner or other servers
When you are working with the object spawner or other servers,
the following error might appear:
The Service Name is invalid
Perform the following:
Make sure you are not using a service name to start the Object Spawner,
instead of a port number. To verify this, look at the properties in
the SAS Management Console (SMC) for the Object Spawner and verify the
settings with your Instructions.html file (My Configuration file). To
verify the contents of the SMC, perform the following:
1. Highlight SASMain - Spawner under Server Manager>SASMain>
SASMain - Spawner, right click, and select properties
a. Click on the Options tab and verify your Associated
machine name contains the fully qualified name.
For example: test.xxx.xxx.com
b. Click on the Servers tab and verify that both the
SASMain - Workspace Server and the SASMain - Stored Process
Server are on the right side under the Selected Servers
column.
c. Click on the Authorization tab and make sure that the
SAS Administrator has all the Permissions granted,
the SAS System Services has the Permissions granted for
ReadMetadata, CheckInMetadata, and WriteMetadata, and the
following permissions Denied: Create, Administer, Read,
Write, and Delete.
2. Highlight SASMain - Spawner under Server Manager>SASMain>
SASMain - Spawner, look on the right side of the screen, and
double-click on Connection SASMain - Spawner. Click on the
Options tab. Under the Authentication Domain - DefaultAuth,
Host Name should be grayed out xxxxxx.xxx.xxx.com, and the
port number is 8581.
3. Highlight SASMain - Spawner under Server Manager>SASMain>
SASMain - Spawner, look on the right side of the screen, and
double-click on LB Connection SASMain - Spawner. Click on the
Options tab, under the Authentication Domain - DefaultAuth,
Host Name should be grayed out xxxxxx.xxx.xxx.com, and the
port number is 8571.

Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
