Usage Note 13596: When running Terminal Services in Application Server mode, installation
will not run
If you are running Terminal Services in Application Server mode, the
operating system prevents you from running all files named setup.exe
or install.exe.
To work around this operating system issue, run setup.exe or install.exe
through Start>Settings>Control\Panel>Add/Remove Programs. Another option
is to put the machine in install mode by running the following command
from a DOS prompt:
change user /install
If Terminal Services is running in Remote Administrator mode, you are
not prevented from running files named setup.exe or install.exe. All
applications run normally. Remote Administrator mode seems to be
the ideal mode for administering the computer.
