Usage Note 13439: Installing Apache Tomcat as Microsoft Windows service
To install Apache Tomcat 4 as a Microsoft Windows service for use with
the SAS 9 Web Applications such as the SAS Web Infrastructure Kit, SAS
Information Delivery Portal, SAS Web Report Viewer, and SAS Web Report
Studio, follow one of the methods below.
* Check for the presence of
C:\SAS\<Project Name>\Lev1\web\Install_Tomcat_Service.bat.
If you have this .bat file, use it to install a Windows service.
The resulting server will be called "SAS - Tomcat 4.1.18".
* If you do not have the Install_Tomcat_Service.bat file, you can
download ZQJ_Install_Tomcat_Service.zip from our FTP site.
ftp://ftp.sas.com/techsup/download/pc/
The batch file has the ability to set dependencies for the Tomcat
service on your Metadata server service and SAS Services Application
service if these services are also present on your web tier.
The batch file requires tomcat.exe that may or may not be present in
your %Tomcat_Home%/bin directory. If needed, it can be found in the
.zip file referenced above.
Also notice the comment in the Installation section that documents how
to alter the -Xms option to use up to 1 GB of memory.
Note: During the initial installation of Apache Tomcat, you were
presented with an option to create a Microsoft Windows service.
The service created by the Tomcat installer does not have the proper
security settings needed by the SAS web applications. Disable this
service if you have it.
