Usage Note 13386: SCANTEXT= option does not work as expected with long text fields
Using SCANTEXT=YES when importing an Excel file that contains long
character values may result in the SAS character variable having an
incorrect length. This occurs when the Excel column contains shorter
text values in at least the first 16 rows, and larger values further
down in the column.
A workaround is to change the value of TypeGuessRows in the Windows
Registry to 0.
WARNING: Always back up your registry before attempting any registry
changes. For assistance, see Windows Help, Microsoft documentation, or
the Microsoft Windows Web site. SAS is not responsible for user error
when editing the Windows Registry. Incorrect changes in the Windows
Registry can render your system unusable and will require that the
operating system be reinstalled.
On the Start menu, click Run. In the Run dialog box, type 'regedit' and
click OK. Open the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Excel
Double click TypeGuessRows. In the DWORD editor dialog box, click
Decimal under Base. Type a value of 0, click OK and exit Regedit.
