Usage Note 13370: ActiveX and Java graphs might not initially display in Microsoft Internet Explorer

DetailsAboutRate It

When attempting to open an HTML file containing an ActiveX or Java graph in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE), the graph might not initially display. Instead of a graph, you will see the following message in your browser window:

Sorry, there was a problem with the graph control or plugin in your
browser. The graph "description of graph" cannot display.

You will also see an information bar near the top of your IE window containing the following message:

To help protect your security, IE has restricted this file from
showing active content that could access your computer. Click here
for options.

If you left-mouse click on the information bar, you will be able to select an option that says "Allow blocked content". This will allow the current graph to display.

To automatically display an ActiveX or Java graph without seeing the IE information bar, from the pull-down options menu in Internet Explorer, select ToolsInternet Options. Select the Advanced tab. Scroll down in the list of options under the Advanced tab until you find the section of Security settings. Under the Security options, enable the following option:

Allow active content to run files on My Computer.

After enabling the option above, close Internet Explorer and restart it in order for the change to take effect.
