Usage Note 12986: What is the difference between a "SAS Software Depot" and "Create a SAS
Image for Deployment"?
Some confusion exists about the differences between creating a "SAS
Software Depot" and "Create a SAS Image for Deployment".
When you insert the SAS Software Navigator CD in your CD-ROM drive, you
can choose the "Create a SAS Software Depot" button and the SAS Software
Navigator starts the process of copying some or all of the CDs from your
installation kit to a location on any computer. This centralized
location allows you to perform installations across your enterprise.
A "SAS Software Depot" is a network copy of some or all of the CDs
in your SAS Installation Kit.
Note: The SAS Software Depot (SSD) is not a full copy of the CDs:
there are some duplicate items that are stripped off to save space.
When you insert the Setup CD in your CD-ROM drive, under the
Administrator Steps you can choose "Create a SAS Image for Deployment"
and the installation starts the process of creating an image of the
products that you are licensed for. This selection provides control for
the administrator to install the specific products necessary for a
specific group. It also provides better control for your licensing
agreements.
In addition, when you select "Create a SAS Image for Deployment", you
can choose the "Client Users" or the "Personal Users" button. The
"Client Users" selections is for users who install a minimal set of
components on their local PCs, but run the majority of their SAS
Software from the network image you just created. The "Personal Users"
selection is for users who will install the complete image of SAS on
their local PCs from the image you just created.
Note: To "Create a SAS Image for Deployment" from a "SAS Software
Depot", you must run setup.exe from the disk1 directory. Otherwise,
insert the SAS Setup CD and run "Create a SAS Image for Deployment"
under the Administrator Steps.
Note: For SAS 9.1 and SAS 9.1.2 in the SAS Installation Kit, the SAS
Software Navigator CD is located in Section 801 - Installation &
Configuration Media. For SAS 9.1.3, this is located in Section 801 -
Deployment Tools Media.
Note: For SAS 9.1 and SAS 9.1.2 in the SAS Installation Kit, the Setup
CD is located in Section 802 - Server Media. For SAS 9.1.3 it is located
in Section 800 - SAS Foundation Media
