Usage Note 11500: When installing SAS 9.1, the Shared Files directory is installed to
C:\Program Files\SAS\Shared Files during the System Requirements Wizard
To redirect the Shared Files directory to a different location during
the SAS 9.1 installation, you first need to manually install the
SAS Private JRE (SAS JRE).
Note: If the SAS Shared Files location is already set, you will not
have the opportunity to pick its location during the SAS JRE
installation.
By default, the SAS System Requirements Wizard (SRW) installs the SAS
JRE to C:\Program Files\SAS\Shared Files. There is not a Browse button
to change this selection during the installation. In order to change the
location of your Shared Files directory, perform the following:
1. Place the SAS Setup CD in your CD-ROM drive.
2. Close the autorun screen.
3. Click on Start>Run and click Browse.
4. Point to the CD-ROM drive, then go to the srw\bundles\sasjre
directory.
5. Run jresetup.exe.
6. When the Shared Files window appears, click on Browse and
change the Shared Files directory location to the new
drive/directory location.
7. Proceed with the SAS installation as usual.
Remember: Run the SRW first.
To redirect the Shared Files from an administrators image created
by running the "Create Image for Deployment," perform the following:
* For a personal image, run jresetup.exe from the
disk1\srw\bundles\sasjre\ directory.
* For a client image, run jresetup.exe from the srw\bundles\sasjre
directory.
If you already have SAS installed, you need to perform the following
in order to redirect the SAS Shared Files:
1. Run Add/Remove programs under the Control Panel and uninstall
any of the SAS installations on your system.
* Remember to back up any necessary files first.
2. Go to Windows Explorer and delete the SAS directories. The
default locations for SAS are as follows:
8.2 - C:\Program Files\SAS Institute\SAS\V8
9.0 - C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS System\9.0
9.1 - C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS 9.1
3. Run regedit by clicking on Start>Run and typing regedit.
4. Go to My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAS Institute Inc.
5. Delete this key if it is there.
* Remember to back up your registry first before making any
changes.
6. Reboot your system, log in as the Administrator, and close all
applications, including antivirus software.
7. Place the SAS Setup CD in the CD-ROM drive, and when autorun
starts, close the installation window.
8. Open Windows Explorer by clicking on Start>Run, typing explorer,
and pressing OK.
9. Go to the CD-ROM drive, navigate to srw\bundles\jre directory, and
run jresetup.exe.
10. When prompts appear that ask you to supply the directory for the
Shared Files, click Browse and select the drive and directory
that you want the Shared Files installed to.
11. Continue with the SAS installation.
Warning: Always back up your registry before you make any registry
changes. For assistance, see Windows Help, Microsoft documentation,
or the Microsoft Windows Web site. SAS is not responsible when
you edit the Windows registry: changes in the Windows registry
can render your system unusable and will require that you reinstall
the operating system.
