Problem Note 10022: Error messages might appear after you uninstall and reinstall the SASĀ® 9.1 ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver
After you uninstall and reinstall the SAS 9.1 ODBC driver, you might receive the following error message:
[SAS][SAS ODBC Driver][SAS Server]178 - TCP method failed
rc = -1023 (Start SAS failure - please check your SAS server
parameters.). (#-1) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's
SQLSetConnectAttr failed (#0)
This error might occur after you uninstall the SAS 9.1 ODBC driver and then subsequently reinstall the driver. When you uninstall the driver, the routine fails to remove server definitions from the registry. This condition might cause an error if you install another version of the SAS ODBC driver.
Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/ODBC/ODBC.ini there are a number of folders named SAS_x_SERV_foo, where foo is the name of a server. For Local (Single User) server types there will be SASPath and SASWork entries. If the SASPath entry is incorrect, any DSN that uses that server will fail.
In addition, because these SAS_x_SERV_foo entries are not removed when you uninstall the ODBC driver, the pre-existing server definitions will persist across ODBC installs and will show up in the Server drop-down box. This condition might create a false impression that the server definitions are still valid.
To work around these problems, you should perform the steps that appear below before you install another version of the SAS ODBC driver:
- Uninstall the SAS 9.1 ODBC Driver
- Access the Windows Registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/ODBC/ODBC.ini
- Delete all the SAS_* keys
