Section 2, Task 3: Customize Report Definitions
Action 4: Save the customized report definition in batch/background form

  1. Modify the report destination.

If you customized the report definition, from the Reports window select Custom Rpts; otherwise, select Supplied Rpts. IT Service Vision displays the list of custom or supplied report definitions. Follow this path:

select the report definition -> ItemActions -> Modify Report

IT Service Vision displays the report definitions main window.

Select Output Options. Make note of the DEVICE= setting at the top of the window.

  2. Write out the report definition.

    1. Then write out the report definition by following this path from the report definition's main window:

Actions -> Access Reports Results -> SOURCE -> View Current

IT Service Vision displays the PREVIEW window. This window contains the source statements that generate the report.

Save the modified report definition to a file by selecting File, Save as, and Write to a File.

IT Service Vision displays the Write to file... window. In the Selection field, type the full physical name of a dataset to which the report definition can be written. (In the next task, when you are setting up your daily production job, you will refer to this file.) Embed the filename in single quotes. Select REPLACE (or make no selection because REPLACE is the default). Then select OK.

IT Service Vision writes the report definition in the form that is for batch use (and with the parameters that will direct a generated report to the ADMIN library).

    2. To return to the report definition's main window, select File and End.

  3. Reset your default output options back to values appropriate for your terminal (to avoid surprises later in your session).

    1. Follow this path from the report definition's main window:

Output Options -> select Graphics Window (for a graph report) or Output Window (for a text report)

Then select Device, scroll to the driver that you noted earlier (the driver for your Monitor), click on it, and then select OK and OK.

    2. To return to the Reports menu, select File, Quit, File, and End.
