Section 1, Task 2: Start Your Data Collection software
Prerequisite 1: Verify that the logging and collector software is installed appropriately.
  1. Logging and collector software

    Your logging software is DFSMS Data Collection Facility (DCOLLECT) and your collector software also is DCOLLECT.

  2. Preferably, use one host for collecting data.

    If more than one host logs data, typically tapes of the logs are brought to a single host for consolidation. The data are pre-processed, by MXG, into a single database of staging data. IT Service Vision treats all data that MXG puts in this database as if the data had been written on one host.

  3. Installation and Verification.

    Refer to the documentation for your collector for complete details on installation and verification, if the logging and/or collector software are not running.
