1, Task 2: Start Your Data Collection software Prerequisite 1: Verify that the logging and collector software is installed appropriately. |
|
Your logging software is DataBase 2 (DB2), and your collector software is SMF.
If more than one host logs data, typically tapes of the logs are brought to a single host for consolidation, whether in SMF-style records or not. Similarly, much of the data are pre-processed, by MXG, into a single database of staging data, whether the data were in SMF-style records or not. IT Service Vision treats all data that MXG puts in this data as if the data had been written on SMF-style records and collected by SMF.
If your SMF log contains data on CICS or DB2 transactions, on multiple hosts or even a single host, you may not want to collect all of it (for space or time reasons).
In that case, you can process the data directly from the logs to the detail level of one or more PDBs, one time or more each day.
Refer to the documentation for your collector for complete details on installation and verification, if the logging and/or collector software are not running.
