After you install a maintenance
release, the product release number for updated products changes to
include maintenance-specific identification, such as M1. This maintenance
number is incremented by one for each maintenance release of that
product. However, a maintenance release (such as the second or third
maintenance release for SAS 9.2) might not contain updates for all
SAS products. Therefore, maintenance numbers can differ across SAS
products. To determine the maintenance numbers for products at your
site, generate a deployment registry report.
For more information,
see Determining the Product Release Numbers for Products at Your Site.
The following table
shows some of the maintenance release numbers in the third maintenance
release for SAS 9.2:

As this table shows,
most products in the third maintenance release for SAS 9.2 have a
maintenance release number of M2. However, Base SAS has a maintenance
release number of M3.
The maintenance release
numbers are different because there have been three maintenance releases
for Base SAS. The first maintenance release did not contain product
updates. Instead, it contained localized Help for the SAS Intelligence
Platform products.
The second maintenance
release for SAS 9.2 did contain product updates. For this maintenance
release, the maintenance release number for Base SAS was incremented
to M2. However, other products in the table were not delivered in
the first maintenance release for SAS 9.2. Because this was the first
time that these products were included in a maintenance release, their
maintenance release number was M1.
For the third maintenance
release, both Base SAS and the other products in the table are being
updated. Therefore, all of the maintenance release numbers are incremented
by 1. As a result, Base SAS has a maintenance release number of M3,
and the other SAS products have a maintenance release number of M2.
