Extract SAP R/3 Metadata Using the SAP R/3 Register Tables
Wizard
If no SAP metadata was
previously extracted, use the SAP R/3 Register Tables wizard
to extract SAP R/3 metadata to SAS data sets. This is similar to how
the Extract from R/3 wizard in SAS Management
Console works.
When you pre-extract
metadata and view it in the SAP R/3 Register Tables wizard,
it improves performance when you browse the SAP R/3 metadata. If you
pre-extracted metadata, you can also perform text-based searches on
the tables for which you extracted metadata.
Follow these steps to
extract SAP R/3 metadata into SAS data sets using the SAP
R/3 Register Tables wizard.
Select StartProgramsSASSAS Data Integration Studio
to start SAS Data Integration Studio.
Select FileRegister Tables to start the Register Tables wizard.
The Register Tables page
is displayed.
Select SourcesEnterprise ApplicationsSAP R/3 and click Next.
If you are prompted,
enter a user name and password to connect to the SAS application server
that lets you run a SAS session and click OK.
The SAP Server page
is displayed.
From the Configured
SAP Server list box, select the SAP server that enables
you to connect to your SAP R/3 system and click Next.
A Metadata Not Found warning dialog box is
displayed.
Tip
If you do not see this warning
dialog box, this procedure cannot work because the SAP metadata library
location has information from a previous extraction.
Click Yes on
the warning dialog box to continue. The Source Type Selection page
is displayed.
Select Tables and
click Next. The Subset Tables page
is displayed.
Select the Extract
SAP Metadata to SAS Data Sets option and click Next.
In the Select
the type of Metadata to extract group box, specify the
types of metadata that you want to extract from your SAP R/3 system.
If you select the Tables check box, you can
click Table Ranges and specify a range of
tables to extract. You can also click Options and
specify other extraction options, such as whether to extract structures,
maintenance views, and help views.
Click View
selections to display the Metadata Extract Selection dialog
box, where you can view all metadata selections and extract options
that you have specified. Click OK to return
to the Metadata Extraction Parameters page
and then click Next. The Save
SAS Source Code page is displayed.
If you want to save
the SAS program to reuse in the future, click Browse and
select a filename. Click Next. The Wizard Finish page
is displayed.
Review the metadata
extraction selections that you have made. When you are satisfied with
your selections, click Finish to write the
metadata to SAS data sets in the specified metadata location.
