Extract SAP R/3 Metadata Using the Extract from R/3 Wizard
You can use this wizard
in SAS Management Console to pre-extract metadata from selected SAP
R/3 tables and write that metadata to SAS data sets. After metadata
is extracted, use the SAP R/3 Register Tables wizard
in SAS Data Integration Studio to browse the metadata, select data
sources for SAS Data Integration Studio, and write metadata about
those SAP R/3 data sources to your metadata repository.
Follow these steps
to use the wizard.
Select StartProgramsSASSAS Management Console to start
SAS Management Console.
Select ToolsExtract from R/3 to start the wizard. The SAP Server page
is displayed.
From the Configured
SAP Server list box, select the configured SAP server
that lets you connect to your SAP R/3 system and click Next.
In the Metadata
Library group box, verify that the path for the SAP R/3
metadata library is correct. Then select the Merge into
Existing Metadata check box if you want to merge the
metadata that you are extracting into the SAS data sets that already
exist in the SAP R/3 metadata library. If you do not select this check
box, any existing SAS data sets are overwritten.
In the Select
the type of Metadata to extract group box, specify the
types of metadata that you want to extract from your SAP R/3 system.
If you select the Tables check box, you can
click Table Ranges and specify a range of
tables to extract. You can also click Options and
specify other extraction options, such as whether to extract structures,
maintenance views, and help views.
Click View
selections to display the Metadata Extract Selection dialog
box for viewing all metadata selections and extract options that
you have specified. Then click OK to return
to the Extract SAP R./3 Metadata to SAS Datasets page.
Click Next to
display the Save SAS
Source Code page. If you want to save the SAS code that
extracts the metadata from your SAP system, use the text field or
the browse button to specify the name of the SAS program.
Click Next to
display the Wizard
Finish page. Review the extraction parameters that you
have defined. When you are finished with the extraction parameters,
click Finish to begin metadata extraction.
