Connector Blocks

Often in a simulation model, blocks located far apart in the model window need to be connected by an arc. Creating an arc between ports on these blocks typically results in the arc traversing over many other blocks and arcs. This can be visually distracting and potentially confusing when interpreting model functionality. The Connector block can be used to help remedy this problem.

Arcs between Connector blocks are invisible by default; therefore you can use Connector blocks to reduce visual arc clutter. You can display inter-Connector arcs when needed and hide them to reduce visual clutter when they are not needed. To show all inter-Connector arcs in the model, select NavigationShow Connector Links from the pop-up menu on either an individual block or a Model window. Reselecting NavigationShow Connector Links hides all inter-Connector arcs.

To create an inter-Connector arc:

  1. Place a separate Connector block adjacent to each of the blocks in the model that you want to directly link.

  2. Create an arc from the appropriate block port to the adjacent Connector block.

  3. Create an arc between the two Connector blocks. Although the arc between the Connector blocks is visible during the arc creation process, it will not be visible when the process is completed.

As discussed in the following section, each block port has a type associated with it: either value (Number, String, and so on) or entity. When you are creating a Connector block, you are asked whether you want a value or entity Connector block. The ports on an entity-type Connector block are red, and the ports on a value-type Connector block are blue. Arcs between entity-type Connector blocks are displayed red when visible, and arcs between value-type Connector blocks are displayed blue when visible.
