Inserts, deletes, and replaces the contents of the character value
according to the byte position of the character value in the argument.

specifies the beginning character position in byte units.

specifies the length of the substring to be replaced in
byte units.

SAS uses all of the characters in characters-to-replace

The KUPDATEB function replaces the value of argument with the expression in
characters-to-replace. KUPDATEB replaces n byte units
starting at the byte unit that you specify in position.
