Overview of Creating a New Application

If a Web application is accessible to the portal, you can create your own link to the application by using either of the following methods:
Note: Before you can access an application from the portal, the portal administrator must deploy the application and implement authorization. For details, see the SAS Intelligence Platform: Web Application Administration Guide, which is available at http://support.sas.com/92administration.

Create a New Application and Add It to a Collection Portlet

To create a new application and add it to a collection portlet, follow these steps:
  1. Navigate to the page where the collection portlet is displayed.
  2. In the portlet's title bar, click the Edit Contents icon Edit icon is a square with a pencil at the diagonal .
  3. Click Add Items on the Edit Portlet Content page.
  4. On the Create tab of the Add items to Portlet page, click Application, and then enter the following information about the application:
    Name
    Short name to identify the application in the portlet.
    Description
    Short description that appears with the application's name in search results.
    URL
    The exact URL address for the application, including the protocol (for example, http://).
    Keywords
    Single words that you or other users can use to search for this application. Use spaces to separate keywords.
    Note: To ensure efficient searching, develop a standard list of keywords and use these keywords consistently.
    Location (group)
    This field appears only if you are a group content administrator. If you are a group content administrator, you can select a group with which to share the new application. For more information, see Share an Application, Link, or Syndication Channel.
  5. Click Add.
    A message appears, indicating that the application was successfully added.
  6. To create more applications to add to the portlet, repeat steps 4 and 5. When you are finished adding items, click Done.

Create a New Application Without Adding It to a Collection Portlet

To create a new application without adding it to a collection portlet, follow these steps:
  1. Click Optionsthen selectCreate New Content.
  2. On the Create New Content page, click Application, and then click Create.
  3. On the Create a New Application page, enter the following information:
    Name
    Short name to identify the application in the portlet.
    Description
    Short description that appears with the application's name in search results.
    URL
    The exact URL address for the application, including the protocol (for example, http://).
    Keywords
    Single words that you or other users can use to search for this application. Use spaces to separate keywords.
    Note: To ensure efficient searching, develop a standard list of keywords and use these keywords consistently.
    Location (group)
    This field appears only if you are a group content administrator. If you are a group content administrator, you can select a group with which to share the new application. For more information, see Share an Application, Link, or Syndication Channel.
  4. Click Create. A message is displayed, indicating that the application was created and is available to be added to a collection portlet.
  5. To create additional applications, repeat steps 3 and 4.
  6. When you are finished creating applications, click Done. On the Create New Content page, click Done again.
