Overview of Creating a New Link

You can create your own personal links to sites on the Web or on your local intranet. You can use either of the following methods to create a link:

Create a New Link and Add It to a Collection Portlet

To create a new link and add it to a collection portlet, follow these steps:
  1. Navigate to the page where the collection portlet is displayed.
  2. In the portlet's title bar, click the Edit Contents icon Edit icon .
  3. Click Add Items on the Edit Portlet Content page.
  4. On the Create tab of the Add items to Portlet page, click Link, and then enter the following information about the link:
    Name
    Short name to identify the link in the portlet.
    Description
    Short description that appears with the link's name in search results.
    URL
    The exact URL address for the link, including the protocol (for example, http://).
    Keywords
    Single words that you or other users can use to search for this link. Use spaces to separate keywords.
    Note: To ensure efficient searching, develop a standard list of keywords and use these keywords consistently.
    Location (group)
    This field appears only if you are a content administrator. If you are a content administrator, you can select a group with which to share the new link. For more information, see Share an Application, Link, or Syndication Channel.
  5. Click Add.
    A message appears, indicating that the link was added.
  6. To create more links to add to the portlet, repeat steps 4 and 5. When you are finished adding items, click Done.

Create a New Link Without Adding It to a Collection Portlet

To create a new link without adding it to a collection portlet, follow these steps:
  1. Click Optionsthen selectToolsthen selectCreate New Content.
  2. On the Create New Content page, click Link, and then click Create.
  3. On the Create a New Link page, enter the following information:
    Name
    Short name to identify the link in the portlet.
    Description
    Short description that appears with the link's name in the search results.
    URL
    The exact URL address for the link, including the protocol (for example, http://).
    Keywords
    Single words that you or other users can use to search for this link. Use spaces to separate keywords.
    Note: To ensure efficient searching, develop a standard list of keywords and use these keywords consistently.
    Location (group)

  4. Click Create. A message appears, indicating that the new link is now available.
  5. To create additional links, repeat steps 3 and 4.
  6. When you are finished creating links, click Done. On the Create New Content page, click Done again.
