Overview of Opening a Data Source

You can open and view two types of data sources:
information map icon SAS Information Map
a collection of metadata that provides a business-relevant view of physical data.
data exploration icon data exploration
a document that contains stored views for a SAS Information Map.

Open an Information Map

To open an information map:
  1. Select Filethen selectOpen from the main menu bar.
  2. From the Files of Type drop-down list, select Information Map.
  3. Locate the information map that you want to open by navigating the metadata tree:
    • To open a folder, click the name of the folder.
    • To go to the parent of the current folder, click Up one level.
    • To go to an ancestor of the current folder, select the folder from the Location drop-down list.
  4. Click the information map that you want to open. The information map that you selected is displayed on the main Visual Data Explorer page.
Note: Information maps that are based on OLAP data are represented by this icon: OLAP information map icon .

Open a Data Exploration

To open a Data Exploration:
  1. Select Filethen selectOpen from the main menu bar.
  2. From the Files of Type drop-down list, select Data Exploration.
  3. Locate the data exploration that you want to open by navigating the metadata tree:
    • To open a folder, click the name of the folder.
    • To go to the parent of the current folder, click Up one level.
    • To go to an ancestor of the current folder, select the folder from the Location drop-down list.
  4. Click the data exploration that you want to open. The default bookmark for the selected data exploration is displayed on the main Visual Data Explorer page.
Note: You can also open a data exploration that you have viewed recently by selecting it from the File menu.
