Specify Properties for the BarLine Chart Viewer

To specify the properties for a barline chart viewer:
  1. On the menu bar for the viewer, click Properties.
  2. On the Graph tab of the Properties dialog box, specify the following options:
    Style
    specifies a set of predefined values for the appearance options.
    Scheme
    specifies a set of predefined values for the color options. If you change any of the color options, or the Style option, the value for Scheme changes to Custom.
    Background
    specifies the background color for the chart. Click the drop-down list to open the color palette, and then select a color.
    Depth
    specifies whether the chart is displayed in two dimensions (2D) or in three dimensions (3D).
    Grid lines
    specifies the appearance of grid lines for the chart.
    From the Direction drop-down list, select whether horizontal or vertical lines are displayed:
    None grid lines are not displayed.
    Horizontal horizontal grid lines are displayed.
    Vertical vertical grid lines are displayed.
    Both both horizontal and vertical grid lines are displayed.
    In the Placement field, select whether the lines are placed in back of the bars (Back) or in front of the bars (Front).
  3. On the Bar tab, specify the following options:
    Bar shape
    specifies the shape of the bars (three-dimensional bar charts only).
    Width
    specifies the width of the bars.
    Outline
    specifies the appearance of the outlines that are around each bar.
    Select Show outline to add outlines around each bar. From the Thickness drop-down list, select the thickness of the outlines. To change the color of the outlines, click the Color drop-down list and select a color.
    Data labels
    specifies the appearance of the data labels.
    Select Show labels to add data labels that show the value for each bar. Select the font and font size from the drop-down lists. Click Bold to make the label bold, or click Italic to make the label italic. To change the font color, click color icon and select a color.
    Note: If the font size that you specify is too large for the viewer, the data labels are resized automatically.
  4. On the Line tab, specify the following options:
    Line
    specifies the appearance of lines in the chart.
    From the Thickness drop-down list, select the thickness of the lines.
    To change the color of the line, click the Color drop-down list and select a color.
    Note: The color that you specify affects the first line. The thickness that you specify affects all of the lines.
    Markers
    specifies the appearance of markers in the chart.
    Select Show markers to add markers for each data point.
    Select the Shape and Size of each marker. To change the color of the markers, click the Color drop-down list and select a color.
    Note: The shape and color that you specify affect the first marker. The size that you specify affects all of the markers.
    Data labels
    specifies the appearance of the data labels.
    Select Show labels to add labels that show the values for each data point. Select the font and font size from the drop-down lists. Click Bold to make the label bold, or click Italic to make the label italic. To change the font color, click color icon and select a color.
  5. On the Axis tab, specify the following options:
    Text
    specifies the appearance of the text for the axes.
    Select Labels to add axis labels. Select the font and font size from the drop-down lists. Click Bold to make the label bold, or click Italic to make the label italic. To change the font color, click color icon and select a color.
    Select Values to add axis values. Select the font and font size from the drop-down lists. Click Bold to make the values bold, or click Italic to make the values italic. To change the font color, click color icon and select a color.
  6. On the Legend tab, specify the following options:
    Legend
    specifies whether the legend is displayed.
    Position
    specifies the location of the legend within the viewer.
    Background
    specifies the appearance of the background for the legend.
    Select Show background to add the background. To change the background color, click the Color drop-down list and select a color.
    Border
    specifies the appearance of the border that is around the legend.
    Select Line to add the border. To change the border color, click the drop-down list and select a color.
    Select Shadow to add a shadow below the legend. To change the shadow color, click the drop-down list and select a color.
  7. When you have finished specifying the properties, click OK to return to the main Visual Data Explorer page.
