Administration of SAS BI Dashboard

New Features in the Administration of SAS BI Dashboard 4.31

SAS BI Dashboard 4.31 contains the following new enhancements:
  • Partial promotion is supported. You can promote dashboard content within the same metadata server.
  • Data caching has been enhanced.
  • Beginning with SAS 9.3, the SAS Web Infrastructure Platform has implemented a framework for providing separate logging contexts for the individual SAS Web applications. For SAS BI Dashboard 4.31, message logging is accomplished with logging contexts that are added to the SASBIDashboard-log4j file.
  • SAS BI Dashboard supports commenting with the SAS Comment Manager. All users can add comments. If users need to edit or delete comments, they should be assigned to the predefined role, Comments:Administrator. This predefined role, which is available in SAS 9.3, includes the capabilities for editing and deleting comments.

Additional Key Features of Administration

SAS BI Dashboard 4.3 runs on SAS 9.2, and SAS BI Dashboard 4.31 runs on SAS 9.3. All of the SAS BI Dashboard 4.3 features are supported on the SAS 9.3 platform.
SAS BI Dashboard 4.3 and later offers several features and enhancements that make administration easier, flexible, and convenient. These features and enhancements are as follows:
  • Storage folders for SAS BI Dashboard now exist in both the foundation SAS Metadata Repository and the SAS Content Server. Configuration files (for example, data source XML files) for SAS BI Dashboard 4.31 are stored on the SAS Content Server.
  • Users' folders for SAS BI Dashboard can be located anywhere below the SAS Folders directory in the Folders tab of SAS Management Console.
  • The SAS BI Dashboard Portlet is installed along with the other SAS BI Portlets. This portlet allows users to display a dashboard that is created with the SAS BI Dashboard application. To use the SAS BI Dashboard portlet with WebSphere Portal, you configure it as a SAS BI Portlet.
  • You can use the SAS Content Server Administration Console to view or create folders for SAS BI Dashboard 4.31. You can also use this console application to set permissions to files used by SAS BI Dashboard 4.31.
    CAUTION:
Although you can delete folders from the SAS Content Server Administration Console, it is strongly advised that you do not perform any deletion of folders because the SAS BI Dashboard content will not be synchronized with the metadata objects.
  • You can enable alerts for users.
  • You can register a stored process and make it available to SAS BI Dashboard 4.31 users.
  • Client browsers that display dashboards with SAS BI Dashboard 4.31 use Adobe Flash Player (Version 10.0 or later) in the Rich Internet Application (RIA) architecture. Client caching enables content objects and data referenced by users to be retained in the browser client under Flash.  Client caching is enabled by default.
  • Image files are not cached.
  • You can enable users to manage alerts by selecting Manage Alerts within SAS BI Dashboard 4.31.
  • You can specify a session time-out interval for inactive user sessions.
  • You can alert users by displaying a warning message before they are logged out of their inactive sessions.
  • When custom repository folders are created for SAS BI Dashboard 4.31, they are added to the Foundation Services.
  • SAS BI Dashboard can be started from SAS Information Delivery Portal without requiring users to log on to the application. The current logon information from the portal is provided to SAS BI Dashboard.
