The XPORT engine will not create a transport file from data sets with character variable values greater than 200 characters. Attempting to create a transport file from data sets containing character values greater than 200 characters will generate the following error:

ERROR: The character variable XXX has too long a value for the <libref> library.

The workaround is to use PROC CPORT which can accommodate values greater than 200 characters and SAS variable names greater than eight characters. Full documentation of the XPORT engine is discussed here: XPORT Engine Limitations.
