SAS University Edition: Help Center

What is a Jupyter notebook?

A Jupyter notebook is a document that includes live interactive code, output from the code, and additional descriptive rich text elements. In SAS University Edition, you can create SAS notebooks, in which you write SAS code, as well as Python 3 notebooks, in which you write Python code. Both types of notebooks use SAS code to generate results.

Jupyter notebooks can consist of three types of cells:

Jupyter notebooks can contain multiple cells that you can collapse, expand, and rearrange. Each notebook has one interactive session connected to the SAS kernel. When you open a notebook, the associated SAS kernel is automatically launched.

The following notebook contains a markdown cell and a code cell. The markdown cell includes the title, and the code cell includes both the code input and results output.
