SAS® OnDemand for Academics

Winter 2022 Upgrade Information - UPGRADE COMPLETE

The upgrade scheduled for the week of December 19-23 was completed on December 22. SAS OnDemand for Academics should now be available for all regions and sites.
Please review the following information to prepare.
This page will be updated closer to the upgrade dates.

What's new?

The Microsoft Windows Operating system continues to be the only supported operating system.
The following clients will upgrade to new versions and new delivery methods*:

Please note: SAS® Studio 3.8 and SAS® Enterprise Guide® version 8.3 are already available.

Software Changes.

Please review the following information to determine if you need to do anything to prepare for the expected software changes.

The SAS Enterprise Miner and SAS Forecast Studio client delivery and installation methods have changed from previous versions*.


The new SAS Enterprise Miner 15.2 and SAS Forecast Studio 15.2 clients will not be available to SAS OnDemand for Academics users until after the Winter 2022 upgrade.

SAS Enterprise Miner and SAS Forecast Studio Users*

Note: You must be enrolled in an active course with the appropriate client selected for use, related to your teaching and classroom requirements and noncommercial research activities, to access this software. See the license agreement for more information.

If you have any previous versions of SAS Enterprise Miner and/or SAS Forecast Studio delivered using Java Web Start, please remove them.
Use the following steps to remove previous Java Web Start clients and then download the latest version of SAS Enterprise Miner and/or SAS Forecast Studio:

  1. Using the Java Console, clear your Java Cache to remove SAS Enterprise Miner and/or SAS Forecast Studio clients. See Clearing your Java Cache for details.
  2. Sign in to the Welcome Page.
  3. Under Applications, click the Download Required link associated to SAS Enterprise Miner or SAS Forecast Studio to redirect you to the SAS Download site.
  4. Sign in using your SAS Profile and select the appropriate installation package to download the latest version.
  5. When the download completes, launch the installation package and step through the deployment wizard.

The following clients are not changing with this upgrade, however, it is recommended you read the following if you have not accessed SAS OnDemand for Academics recently.


SAS Enterprise Guide Users

Note: You must be enrolled in an active course with this client selected for use, related to your teaching and classroom requirements and noncommercial research activities, to access this software. See the license agreement for more information.

If you have any previous versions of SAS Enterprise Guide for SAS OnDemand for Academics, it is highly recommended you uninstall your older version and install the latest available client version. Use the following steps uninstall and download the latest version of SAS Enterprise Guide:

  1. Uninstall previous SAS Enterprise Guide Versions using the appropriate method for your Windows Operating system. See Microsoft support for more information.
  2. Sign in to the Welcome Page.
  3. Under Applications, click the Download Required link associated to SAS Enterprise Guide to redirect you to the SAS Downloads site.
  4. Sign in using your SAS Profile and select the appropriate installation package to download the latest version.
  5. When the download completes, launch the installation package and step through the deployment wizard.

SAS Studio Users

Note: Anyone (instructors, students, researchers, independent learners) can use SAS Studio for non-commercial purposes.

SAS Studio 3.8 will have additional patches applied but the version is currently at the latest release.

* Java Web Start was deprecated in Java 9 and Oracle does not provide any support, updates, or security fixes.
As a result, Java Web Start is no longer supported for SAS Enterprise Miner 15.2, SAS Text Miner 15.2, and SAS Forecast Studio 15.2.
