All customers that are migrating from SAS^® Life Science Analytics Framework (LSAF) 5.2.x to LSAF 5.3 should be aware that process flows that were defined prior to LSAF 5.3 will not upgrade.

The Activiti workflow engine, which is an embedded component in the application, received a required upgrade. This upgrade made it impossible for the engine to support the older process flows in the new LSAF 5.3 version. Specifically, the upgrade introduced changes to the representation of the process flow execution hierarchy within the core engine.

The changes have a direct impact to existing LSAF 5.2.x process flows that are in an Active or Suspended state because they cannot be reliably resumed in the upgraded system. It is recommended that any process flows in an Active or Suspended state be completed prior to upgrading to LSAF 5.3 where possible.

Following the upgrade, the Copy Process Flow feature can be used to recreate existing process flows (with setup details and attachments) and activate them.

Process flows that were not started, or are already in a completed state, are not affected by the upgrade. All process flows that have yet to be started can be activated and used after the upgrade
