Problem Note 66877: SAS® Life Science Analytics Framework 5.2.x - PROC COMPARE displays are misleading when character values contain leading, trailing, or embedded blanks
In SAS Life Science Analytics Framework 5.2.x, COMPARE procedure output displays might differ from their counterpart displays using SAS (such as the VIEWTABLE) with the following scenarios:
- Either leading or trailing blanks are present in the data values.
- Embedded blank spaces are present in the data values.
For the above scenarios, PROC COMPARE output in SAS Life Science Analytics Framework correctly identifies data value differences between strings, but the output display does not correctly represent the actual compared string values.
The values that are displayed by PROC COMPARE appear to be identical even though they are not. The inconsistency between what the procedure reports, and what is displayed, can be confusing and misleading.
The display difference is the result of string values being trimmed by SAS Life Science Analytics Framework.
To provide for a more consistent result between SAS Life Science Analytics Framework and SAS, the trim methods have been removed.
For data values with embedded blank spaces, the results are consistent beginning with SAS® Life Science Analytics Framework 5.3.
For data values with leading and trailing blank spaces, the results are consistent beginning with SAS® Life Science Analytics Framework 5.4.
