Usage Note 62334: A Disk Full window appears or you receive "Error: An I/O error has occurred on file work.xxx.data" when you run code in Base SAS®
When you attempt to run code in Base SAS, the following pop-up window appears and the program stops responding:

This window lists the possible actions to take when there are no longer any available resources. This message usually appears when the Work directory that stores temporary SAS files has become full.
To work around this issue, use the Cleanwork utility. The utility searches and cleans temporary SAS files and SAS utility directories so that you have more free space on a specific directory, drive, or file.
The utility can be used only if SAS® 9.4 TS1M2 and later is installed. For SAS® 9.2 and SAS® 9.3, please review SAS Note 8786.
Follow these steps to run the Cleanwork utility on a directory (C: is used for the example; adapt the commands as needed for your environment):
- In the Disk Full window, select C and then select OK.
- Navigate to the command prompt (cmd).
- Change the Work directory to your SASHOME location. Typically, SASHOME is under Program Files:
cd "c:\Program Files\SASHOME\SASFoundation\9.4"
- Run the Cleanwork utility:
cleanwork.exe /v c:
After you execute the Cleanwork utility, the command prompt will pause for a moment and then return to the next line.
If you still receive the error window above after you clear your workspace, change your Work location to a drive with a larger capacity. You can also work with your IT department to free up space or to add a drive that has more space.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
The Disk Full window appears when the current Work directory is full. At times you might see "ERROR: Insufficient space in file work.
xxx.data," which represents a similar issue.
