Usage Note 58680: Generating Workspace Server logs within SAS® Enterprise Miner(tm) Workstation
When diagnosing issues with SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation, it might be necessary to generate Workspace Server logs. The following steps explain how to enable, generate, and collect such logs.
Enable Workspace Server logs within SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation
- On the machine where you launch SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation, navigate to the following location on the filesystem:
SASHome\SASEnterpriseMinerWorkstationConfiguration\version\
SASHome is the location of your SASHome folder (example: C:\Program Files\SASHome).
version is the version of the application that you are using (example: 7.1
, 12.1
, 12.3
, 13.1
, 13.2
, and so on).
- Click the Downloads tab to download the
logconfig.zip
file. Extract the two files contained within it (logconfig.debug.xml
and logconfig.trace.xml
) to the folder noted in step 1 above.
- Within the folder found in step 1 above, find the
em.ini
file and edit the following line accordingly:
Original line found in em.ini:
-Dcom.sas.iom.orb.brg.zeroConfigWorkspaceServer.logconfigloc="logconfig.xml -xcmd"
To enable Workspace Server logging with DEBUG details, edit as follows:
-Dcom.sas.iom.orb.brg.zeroConfigWorkspaceServer.logconfigloc="logconfig.debug.xml -xcmd"
To enable Workspace Server logging with TRACE details, edit as follows:
-Dcom.sas.iom.orb.brg.zeroConfigWorkspaceServer.logconfigloc="logconfig.trace.xml -xcmd"
Generate and collect Workspace Server logs within SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation
After completing the steps above, you might need to launch SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation using Run as administrator... The location where the Workspace Server logs are written by default might be restricted. Workspace Server logs should be generated in the same location identified in step 1 above and should have the name workspace_PID.log
, where PID
is the process ID of the Workspace Server. Simply launching SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation should generate at least one Workspace Server log. Depending on the activity that is performed within SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation, several Workspace Server logs might be generated.
As an alternative to using Run as administrator..., you can change the location where the log files are written by editing the logconfig*.xml
file that is in use. Details are included in the logconfig*.xml
files.
If you are engaging SAS Technical Support, then send all the Workspace Server logs that are generated for review and analysis.
