Usage Note 48815: Issues with various data types occur when you convert data from Hive to SAS® with SAS/ACCESS® Interface to Hadoop
Conversion issues can occur when you are converting data from Hive to SAS. Here are two potential issues of note:
- Hive STRING columns default to $32767 when Hadoop data is read into SAS. This can be unnecessarily large for short STRING columns and might lead to performance issues. It can also truncate Hadoop STRING columns that are greater than 32767.
- Hive STRING columns that contain ANSI date, time, or timestamp values do not automatically convert to, respectively, SAS DATE, TIME, or DATETIME types.
For information about workarounds for these issues, see the following:
For additional information about these and other data types, see
Data Types for Hadoop in SAS/ACCESS® 9.3 for Relational Databases: Reference, Second Edition.
