When installing SAS 9.2 on the Windows platform and the SAS^® Foundation installation starts, the installation might stop responding and the following dialog boxes might appear:

The following error message might appear in the sassetup.log file:

SILENTMODE: Error Loading Product Data A critical error 
occurred while loading SAS product data. Setup will 
abort. SETUP TERMINATED!

Several things can cause this to happen:

• copied media instead of original SAS media
• media with scratches or smudges
• a corrupted SAS Installation Data file(SID file)
• driver or DVD problems
• corrupt download

To correct this error, perform any of the the following:

• Install from the original media, not copied media.
• If you are using copied media, try burning another DVD with a different DVD brand. It is possible that the burner you are using is having problems with a particular brand. You can also use a utility to check and make sure that the media is not defective
• Try installing to another machine.
• Create a SAS Software Depot on another machine and install from that image.
• Obtain a new SAS Installation Data file from your SAS Representative. They will need the original SAS order number. This file is located in the sid_files directory on the DVD or SAS Software Depot. Or the SAS Representative can request a new SID file from Contracts.
• Reattempt the download and install from that newly created SAS Software Depot.
