Problem Note 18120: SAS hangs when you use File>Open to open a .sas file, right-click the
file, and select Open With
When you click File>Open menu in SAS, then right-click a .SAS file in
the Open dialog box and select "Open with SAS 9.1" or "Open with SAS 9.2",
SAS hangs and an OLE Automation dialog box appears and hangs.
Also, if you click File>Open menu and File>Save As menu in SAS, and
leave the Open or Save As window open, then go to Windows Explorer (outside
of SAS), and double-click or right click on a .SAS file and choose "Open with
SAS 9.1" or "Open with SAS 9.2", opening the SAS program process hangs.
If this occurs then in SAS, close the Open or Save As window, and select
File-Exit, or choose the X in the upper right-hand corner. Perform this step
twice. Then, in the 'SAS System Close' window that states:
SAS is currently terminating. Do you wish to wait for SAS to terminate normally?
Choose No. The following message is displayed:
Automation Error
Error: An automation error occurred (0).
This causes the SAS session to terminate.
If the steps above are not available, then press Ctrl+Alt+Del and click Task
Manager to close both SAS and the OLE Automation dialog box.
There is no solution to this problem. To prevent this problem, close the
File->Open or File->Save As windows, prior to opening a .SAS program from
Windows Explorer.
