Usage Note 17293: Cannot connect to server or could not login errors
Single-user installs of SAS
® Enterprise Miner™ might no longer be able to connect or open a project if the workgroup or network account password is changed. When you try to start SAS Enterprise Miner, you will see
errors such as:
Cannot connect to server
Could not login to Enterprise Miner. Contact your administrator..
To circumvent the error, use this checklist to change the password for a
single-user install of SAS Enterprise Miner 5.1.3 or 5.2.
- Launch SAS
Start ► Programs ► SAS ► SAS 9.1 (English)
Do not use SAS 9.2 to encode the password. Encoding is handled differently in SAS 9.2 and will cause errors when starting the object spawner.
In the program editor, specify your new password in quotes using PROC
PWENCODE. For example, if you want your new password to be Password1:
proc pwencode in="Password1";run;
- Observe the encrypted password value PROC PWENCODE creates in the
SAS system log. In this example the value will be "{sas001}AbCdEfGh=".
Highlight and copy the encrypted password from this line. The encrypted
password value consists of all non-blank characters beginning with the
first curly brace. In this example, highlight and copy:
{sas001}AbCdEfGh=
- Navigate to and edit this file:
C:\SAS\EMiner\Lev1\SASMain\ObjectSpawner\OMRConfig.xml
where "EMiner" is the name of the installed plan (the name may vary from
site to site).
- In the OMRConfig.xml file, find a line that looks like the one below
(with your workgroup and ID instead of "SASCARY\Fred"). Update the
password by replacing the password contents and saving the file.
<Login Name="Metadata Login" UserId="'SASCARY\Fred'"
Password="{sas001}AbCdEfGh=" />
- Restart the object spawner (usually a service called "SAS Lev1 OB -
EMiner"), or reboot your computer.
- For SAS Enterprise Miner 5.1.3, Launch the SAS Enterprise Miner
configuration utility: Start ► Programs ► SAS ► Enterprise Miner ► EM5.1
Advanced Configuration
In the configuration window that opens, enter your new Microsoft Windows
password and click Next, then Finish. The application should exit
without any messages.
- Use the new password to log on to SAS Enterprise Miner.
