Problem Note 10143: SAS 9 item missing from the Programs menu after installing only
Academic Premier or Enterprise Miner Client Solution
During the SAS 9 installation, the Select Components screen looks
similiar to the following, depending on which SAS products you have
licensed:

If you check the box beside Academic Premier Program and/or
Enterprise Miner Client Solution, the installation completes and
all the necessary files are installed. However, if you you try
to start SAS, you only see the following menu items:
START -> Programs -> SAS -> Renew SAS Software
-> SAS Service Configuration Utility
The item to start SAS, -> The SAS System for Windows 9.0 (English),
is missing.
To circumvent the problem, you can do ONE the following:
* Create a shortcut on your desktop.
1. Use Windows Explorer to locate the sas.exe file.
2. Right-click.
3. Choose Create Shortcut.
4. rag the shortcut to sas.exe to the desktop.
* Create a shortcut on your Program menu.
1. Right-click on Start.
2. Choose Explore All Users (or Explore).
3. Navigate to the Programs\SAS folder.
4. Click File>New>Shortcut and point to the SAS 9 sas.exe file.
5. Name the shortcut as follows: The SAS System for Windows 9.0
(English).
* Reinstall SAS.
Select BASE SAS, in addition to Academic Premier Program.
Note: To select BASE SAS, on the Select Components screen
(shown previously) click on the plus sign (+) beside SAS System.
Then check Base SAS.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
