The Enterprise MinerTM Tree Desktop Application is a Windows® application for interactively training or just viewing decision trees created with the Decision Tree node of Enterprise Miner. In SAS mode, the thin client Application offers complete control over the creation of a tree, including complete specification of all splitting rules. In Results Viewer mode, the Application displays more than fourteen tables and graphs in separate windows that may be independently arranged. Clicking on a variable, node, or subtree in one window automatically updates and selects the corresponding items in the other windows.
Recent enhancements include the ability to export all graphics to a jpg file, the ability to collapse and expand nodes in a tree display, and choice of displaying variables labels or names.
The Desktop Application 9.1.32 SAS mode requires connecting to a server with SAS 9.1.3 and Enterprise Miner 4.3 or 5.1 in order to create a new decision tree. However, Application 9.1.32 in Results Viewer mode will display a tree created with Enterprise Miner 3.1 or later by simply dragging the tree data set onto the Application. Results Viewer mode works without SAS being present.
The Desktop Application 9.1.32 comes with Enterprise Miner 5.2. Enterprise Miner 4.3 and 5.1 will automatically invoke 9.1.32 when installed. Enterprise Miner 4.0 and 4.1 will continue to invoke the Tree Results Viewer 4.1.2, downloadable here, after the Tree Desktop Application is installed. Enterprise Miner 4.0 and 4.1 cannot invoke the Tree Desktop Application 9.1.32 directly.
The Application runs on Windows® 2000, Windows® 2003, and Windows® XP (with SP1a) without using the SAS® System and without requiring the SAS System to be installed. If SAS is not installed, then it must be installed on a server in order to create a new tree. The Tree Desktop Application version 9.1.32 does not run on Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows NT.
When installing on Windows® XP with SP1, an error similar to the following may appear when the install or the System Requirements Wizard finishes: "Instruction at "0x4fef10a2" referenced memory at 0x00168bb0. The memory could not be "read."" Ignore this message. The message does not appear with SP2 or after installing a Microsoft patch to SP1 from this page.
