Configuring Access to SAS Servers

IML Studio enables you to access two types of SAS servers: SAS Workspace Servers, and SAS Metadata Servers. A SAS Workspace Server provides support for running traditional SAS language programs. When used in conjunction with IML Studio, a SAS Workspace Server also provides support for running IMLPlus language programs. A SAS Metadata Server provides, among other things, the information necessary for client applications to connect to SAS Workspace Servers. If you have SAS installed on your personal computer, IML Studio provides access to that SAS Workspace Server automatically using the name "My SAS Server". To use IML Studio with other SAS Workspace Servers, you must first establish a connection to your organization's SAS Metadata Server. Once that connection is established, you can use IML Studio with your organization's SAS Workspace Servers.

To facilitate connecting to a SAS Metadata Server, IML Studio provides the SAS Metadata Server Connection Wizard. This wizard steps you through the process of establishing the connection. Once the connection is established, IML Studio re-establishes the connection to the SAS Metadata Server each time you start IML Studio.

Before you begin the SAS Metadata Server Connection Wizard, you must obtain the following information from your computer system administrator:

To establish a connection to a SAS Metadata Server

  1. On the Options menu, click SAS Metadata Server Connection Wizard.

IML Studio will display the first page of the wizard.

  2. Click Next.

IML Studio will display the Server Computer page of the wizard.

  3. In the Machine name box, type the DNS name of the computer on which the SAS Metadata Server is running.
  4. In the Port number box, type the port number to use to access the SAS Metadata Server.
  5. Click Next.

IML Studio will display the Logon Credentials page of the wizard.

  6. If your administrator instructed you to use Integrated Windows authentication when connecting to the SAS Metadata Server, select Use Integrated Windows authentication.

Otherwise, type the user ID and password provided by your administrator into the appropriate boxes. If your administrator told you to use an Authentication Domain other than DefaultAuth, type the correct name into the Authentication Domain box. If you would like IML Studio to remember your credentials so you don't have to enter them each time you start IML Studio, select Remember password.

  7. Click Next.

IML Studio will attempt to connect to the SAS Metadata Server. If the connection is established, IML Studio will display the Connection Successful page of the wizard.

  8. Click Next.

IML Studio will display the final page of the wizard.

  9. Click Finish.

IML Studio will display the Choose Default SAS Server dialog box. This dialog box lists all the SAS Workspace Servers defined in the SAS Metadata Server.

  10. In the dialog box, select the SAS Workspace Server you want IML Studio to use by default.

If SAS is installed on your personal computer, you will probably want your default server to be "My SAS Server".

  11. Click OK.
