SAS Workspaces
A SAS workspace runs programs written in the SAS language. This type of workspace is available beginning with the 13.1 release of IML Studio. A SAS workspace provides the following features:
- Run SAS programs containing any SAS language syntax, including the SAS Macro Language
- Run any PROC IML statements, including those that are not supported by IMLPlus
- Open SAS data sets and create interactive graphs
- View the cumulative log from the beginning of SAS server execution
A SAS workspace cannot run IMLPlus programs and therefore does not provide IMLPlus-related features. Thus, a SAS workspace does not provide the following:
IML Studio creates a SAS workspace when you open the following types of files:

To create a new SAS workspace
From the File menu, point to New, and then click Workspace for SAS.

Differences from an IMLPlus Workspace
A SAS workspace has the following differences from an IMLPlus workspace:
- A SAS workspace displays the log from the beginning of SAS server execution.
- A SAS workspace does not automatically clear the log before each run. (You can clear the log manually by pressing CTRL+E.)
- A SAS workspace respects the server-side setting of the NOTES option. By contrast, an IMLPlus workspace configures the NOTES option based on a setting in the
SAS Options dialog box.
