Overview of SAS Software
DataFlux Data Management Studio and Server
SAS Data Management Servers provide a scalable server environment for your jobs, profiles, and real-time services. After you upload your jobs and real-time services to the server, authorized users across your enterprise execute them.
In a production environment, you typically run test jobs and small jobs on the DataFlux Data Management Studio host. You upload larger jobs to a SAS Data Management Server. The SAS Data Management Server provides a scalable server environment for large Data Management Studio jobs. Jobs are uploaded from DataFlux Data Management Studio to a SAS Data Management Server, where the jobs are executed. For more information, see Data Management Servers Riser Bar.
SAS Quality Knowledge Bases
A Quality Knowledge Base (QKB) is a collection of files that store data and logic that define data management operations. SAS software products reference a QKB when performing these operations on your data.
You can use definitions in a QKB as delivered, or you can use DataFlux Data Management Studio to customize the QKB by modifying definitions or creating new definitions for use with your own business data. Since a QKB is used by DataFlux Data Management Studio, SAS Data Quality Server, and the SAS Data Quality Accelerators, QKB customizations are automatically available to your entire enterprise. For more information, see Managing Quality Knowledge Bases.
Expression Engine Language
Expression Engine Language (EEL) is used with the DataFlux Data Management Studio and SAS Event Stream Processing (ESP) for a variety of tasks. In SAS Data Management data jobs, it can filter and augment rows of data. In process jobs, it can enable users to write code that makes decisions about the flow of the process job. In DataFlux Data Management Studio Monitor, it is the language that is used to write business rules. These rule sets, called tasks, run against sets of data to identify rows that violate the rules. In SAS Event Stream Processing, it is used for event processing and for accessing data quality functionality. For more information, see Expression Engine Language: Reference Guide.
SAS Web Studio
SAS Web Studio is a web interface for some features in DataFlux Data Management Studio. SAS Web Studio is no longer available with SAS offerings as of SAS 9.4 M7, due to the end-of-life for Adobe Flash. The latest SAS offerings include replacements for SAS Web Studio components that were used to manage reference domains and to monitor the quality of data jobs.
For more information, see SAS Visual SAS Visual Analytics Report Used to Monitor Data Quality and SAS Reference Data Manager.
Authentication
In a production environment, you are typically prompted to enter a user name and password before you can connect to a SAS Data Management Server. This happens because the server has been configured for authorization. A SAS Metadata Server is used as the authorization server. For more information, see Log On to DataFlux Data Management Studio.
