Connecting to Data Management Servers

DataFlux Data Management Servers provide a scalable server environment for your jobs, profiles, and real-time services. After you upload your jobs and real-time services to the server, authorized users across your enterprise execute them using the server’s HTTP/SOAP interface. To upload jobs and profiles to a server, you must add a connection to that server on the Data Management Servers riser. This riser is also the main administrative interface for DataFlux Data Management Servers.

It is assumed that a DataFlux Data Management Server has been installed and that you know the domain name or IP address of the server. If the server has been configured for authentication, you will specify the Domain name that is defined on the authentication server. For more information, see Specifying an Authentication Server for a Data Management Server.

Perform the following steps to add a connection to a DataFlux Data Management Server:

  1. Click the Data Management Servers riser. The Data Management Server panel displays.
  2. In the server information pane on the right, click the New Data Management Server icon in the tool bar. The Data Management Server dialog displays.
  3. Enter a descriptive name for the server in the Name field.
  4. Add information about the server in the Description field,if desired.
  5. Identify the network name of the server in the Server field. Example valid values include localhost, myServer.com, or https://myServer.com. Use the HTTPS method if the server is configured to use SSL to communicate with SOAP clients.
  6. Specify the port number in the Port field, or accept the default.
  7. Ask your administrator if you should select the Requires SAS Token checkbox. Selecting this option makes DataFlux Data Management Studio present a SAS Token when connecting to a DataFlux Data Management Server. Select this option if your site is set up for Integrated Windows Authentication (IWA), and DataFlux Data Management Studio users do not have outbound credentials for the DMServer domain. This is usually the default behavior when IWA is in use.
  8. If the server has been configured for authorization, specify the Domain name that is defined on the authentication server. For more information, see Specifying an Authentication Server for a Data Management Server.

  9. Click Test Connection to verify your connection. Enter any required credentials.
  10. If the connection is successful, click OK to save your changes.

Some DataFlux Data Management Studio users might connect to a DataFlux Data Management Server to deploy jobs, profiles, and to perform related tasks. For information about deploying jobs, see Deploying Jobs to a Data Management Server. For information about deploying profiles, see Deploying Profiles to a Data Management Server. Server administrators will connect to a data management server to maintain that server. For information about maintaining this server, see the DataFlux Data Management Server Administrator's Guide.
