The PAVING data set contains the results of an experiment concerning pavement durability. Thirty-one different asphalt pavements are prepared and tested on a machine that simulates road wear. Durability is estimated by the change in rut depth (contained in variable RUTDEPTH), recorded in inches per million wheel passes. The pavements are tested in two groups (indicated by variable RUN), with 16 in the first group and 15 in the second.
The other five variables in the data set are the factors varied in preparing the experimental pavements:
X1 |
viscosity of the asphalt |
X2 |
percentage of asphalt in surface course |
X3 |
percentage of asphalt in base course |
X4 |
percentage of fines in surface course |
X5 |
percentage of voids in surface course |
Multiple regression and ANOVA is appropriate for this data set.
