Editing Data Sets

To edit the current data set, select 'View data [arrow] Edit' from the File pull-down menu on the main window.

If you have write access to the data set, you are able to edit the data displayed in the window. You can change values, add new observations, delete observations, and so forth. If you do not have write access to the data set, or if it is a view, it is displayed in browse mode and you cannot edit it.

Note that changes made in the edit window are essentially made in place. You cannot cancel them.

If you are working with only a subset of your data (as specified by using 'Select observations' from the main window's Locals pull-down menu), only that subset is displayed.

The Edit function can be used to look up values that are outside the normal range. In the FSVIEW window in which the data are displayed, select 'Where...' from the Search pull-down menu. In the data entry field provided, enter conditions (such as CHOL > 300) that identify abnormal observations.
