Working with the SAS Content Server

Overview of Working with the SAS Content Server

Gallery Manager enables you to view and work with the SAS IT Resource Management reports that are on the SAS Content Server. However, if you are a system administrator, then you might need to clean up and delete reports folders that are no longer in use. For example, while report jobs purge old reports by default, some report jobs might be discontinued and become obsolete. In this case, you might delete these reports manually.
CAUTION:
Do not delete the ITRM folder or the styles folder in the SAS Content Server.
SAS IT Resource Management and the Gallery Manager use the ITRM folder to store and retrieve IT reports. SAS IT Resource Management reports use the ITRMDefault style sheet that is stored in the styles folder. If you remove the ITRM folder, then the Adapter Setup wizard report jobs no longer work and the Gallery Manager cannot start. If you remove the styles folder, then your reports might lose their SAS IT Resource Management styles.
For more information about working with the SAS Content Server, see the chapter about administering the SAS Content Server in the SAS 9.2 Intelligence Platform: Web Application Administration Guide.

How Does the Gallery Manager Cache Work?

Gallery Manager enables you to access, view, and manage all of the SAS IT Resource Management reports that are stored within the ITRM folder or its subfolders. Gallery Manager scans the ITRM folder on the SAS Content Server to retrieve report metadata that it stores in cache memory. Using this cache enables Gallery Manager to retrieve reports from the SAS Content Server more quickly.
The Gallery Manager cache is updated during the following events:
  • when the Gallery Manager starts.
  • when a SAS IT Resource Management report job is run.
  • when you force a Gallery Manager cache update. To do so, enter http://<YourMidTierName>:<port number>/ITRMGalleryManager/WebdavUpdate.do?job=job1&status=COMPLETED in the address field of your Web browser and press ENTER.
When the Gallery Manager cache is being updated, a message appears at the bottom of the user interface.
Tip
For best results, make sure that the cache update is invoked when users are not logged on to Gallery Manager.

Back Up Reports on the SAS Content Server

To back up your SAS IT Resource Management reports, you must back up the SAS Content Server that stores the reports. If you are a system administrator, then back up the SAS Content Server before you manually delete any reports from the SAS Content Server.
For more information about backing up reports, see Appendix 10, “Best Practices and Troubleshooting Tips” in the SAS IT Resource Management: Administrator's Guide.

Delete Sample Reports

SAS IT Resource Management provides 30 sample reports during installation. These sample reports provide examples of the type of reports that SAS IT Resource Management provides. They also enable you to see how the Gallery Manager works before you begin processing your own data. For more information, see Sample Reports.
After you have viewed the sample reports and have your own reports, you might choose to delete these sample reports from the SAS Content Server if you no longer need them. You can do so from the SAS Content Server Admin Console, which is located at http://<YourMidTierName>:<port number>/SASContentServer/dircontents.jsp?path=/sasdav/ITRM. The sample reports are in a folder called SampleReports. For more information, see the chapter about administering the SAS Content Server in the SAS 9.2 Intelligence Platform: Web Application Administration Guide.
If you remove reports manually from the SAS Content Server, be sure to refresh the cache. To perform this task, enter http://<YourMidTierName>:<port number>/ITRMGalleryManager/WebdavUpdate.do?job=job1&status=COMPLETED in the address field of your Web browser and press ENTER.
Tip
For best results, make sure that the cache update is invoked when users are not logged on to Gallery Manager.
