This full day hands-on workshop teaches participants how academic blind and low-vision students use the iPad for reading, writing and research. Participants will review some of the basic concepts covered in introduction to iPad accessibility features for blind and low vision students such as searching the web with Safari, etc. Participants will learn how to share instructional materials using Dropbox and they will use Dropbox to retrieve and return assignments throughout the workshop. Participants will learn how to read electronic books in iBooks and edit documents in Pages without Voiceover. Finally, participants will learn how to perform those same tasks using Voiceover gestures and keyboard commands. See the course outline for more details.
We prefer that all participants complete introduction to iPad accessibility features for blind and low vision students prior to attending this workshop. If that is not possible, all participants must be comfortable using an iPad and they must be familiar with the Voiceover screen reader.
Each participant must bring an iPad that is connected with a Bluetooth keyboard that can be used during hands-on step-by-step activities. All participants must install iBooks, Pages, Dropbox and Join.Me on their iPad before the training. Once iBooks is installed, please download these three free books:
Once you have registered for this workshop, you will receive an invitation to join a Dropbox folder. You must join that folder prior to attending the workshop.
