Sunday Seminars

Sunday, April 10
8 – 11:30am

Sunday Seminars cost $95 and you will receive a book and appropriate handouts and most of the topics are appropriate for a variety of SAS experience levels. You may choose from the following concurrent seminars:

  • V9 for V8 People: Exploring the SAS9 Enhancements
    Instructor: Paul Kent, SAS

Come join Paul Kent, several other SAS R&D Hooligans and a room full of dyed-in-the-wool SAS programmers. This seminar will explore these (and possibly more) topics:

    • Perl Regular Expressions
    • New ODS Thinking
    • Microsoft Add-ins
    • Enterprise Guide
    • What is a thread enabled procedure and how do I use it?
    • SPD Engine
    • High Speed Forecasting

  • Project Management: Managing Software Projects Using Earned Value
    Instructor: Denise Brown, ATI Inc.

Measuring productivity or the value of effort is sometimes difficult at best in software projects. This presentation reviews the benefits of using Earned Value on software projects in order to make effective decisions quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment. This presentation involves a group exercise along with templates for the attendees.

  • Introduction to Data Mining and Text Mining
Instructor: John Wallace, Business Researchers Inc.

Not sure what data mining is all about, but your company is interested and you are the resident SAS expert or you manage SAS programmers and you need to get up to speed? It has been years since you have had a statistics course, but you've also heard that it isn't necessary to be a statistician to use data mining techniques. This half-day seminar will explore skills necessary to become a better decision maker using data mining and text mining. You will learn the basic modeling approaches supported by Enterprise Miner. Examples will customer segmentation, predictive modeling and document clustering. Text Mining examples include discussion group data from the Internet. The pre-processing of data, exploratory analysis and development of synonym and stop lists is covered.
