Live Web Class Information

Steps to prepare for class:

  1. Understand how to participate and what to expect. Read the Live Web Quick Reference guide (.pdf).

To view, download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. For best printing results, select the Acrobat printer icon (will appear in top left corner) instead of printing from your browser window.

  2. Learn how to dial in and download course materials. Look for this info in the instructions e-mail sent to you 3 days before class.
  3. Download your class materials in advance.
  4. Join your class 15 minutes before scheduled start time.

System requirements:

Before registering for a Live Web class, please verify that you meet the requirements to participate in the class. For most Live Web classes, you will complete the course exercises through our virtual lab. The virtual lab allows you to access the software used in class over the Internet, so that you do not need this software on your local machine. If firewall problems prevent you from connecting to the virtual lab, then you need access to the software taught in class on a Windows operating system.

  1. SAS recommends that each student join the Live Web class independently with their own Web conference and telephone connections for optimal participation in the class. To participate in a Live Web class, you need
    • Microsoft Windows 98 SE, 2000, XP, Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, Business, or Enterprise (32-bit or 64-bit editions)
      • Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
      • Mozilla Firefox 1.5
      • Netscape Navigator 7.1
      • AOL 9

      • Safari 1.1 or higher

      • Minimum bandwidth is DSL/Cable
      • Wired Internet connection (not wireless)
      • Screen resolution set to 1024x768
  2. To participate in the audio portion of the Live Web class, you need
    • a separate phone line to dial into the audio conference (toll-free in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. For all other countries, charges will apply)
    • SAS recommends using headphones instead of the standard handset or speakerphone
  3. To verify that your computer will access the Web conference successfully,
    • perform a diagnostic test for your computer. This will check for the supported version of Flash Player and the Acrobat Connect Add-in, among other items; however, you do not need the Add-in to connect to a Live Web class.
    • ensure you can view a SAS Live Web preview class:
      1. Click the following Meeting URL or enter it in your browser: https://sas.connectsolutions.com/preview/
      2. On the page that appears,
        • select "Enter as a Guest"
        • type your name
        • select the "Enter Room" button.
      3. Once this preview loads, you will see a slide show that advances slides every 4 seconds. If you see this, then your system is ready for a SAS Live Web class.
  4. Most, but not all, Live Web classes use the virtual lab. If your class uses the virtual lab, complete the following:
    • run this test to verify that your computer can connect to a virtual lab session through your firewall
    • if you are not able to connect to the virtual lab, please contact Live Web Technical Support at (919) 531-9338
  5. To obtain the class materials, you need
    • the ability to download an installation file (.exe) from the Internet or
    • an unzipping utility application (i.e., WinZip or PKZip)
