Professional experience:
Before joining SAS, George Fernandez worked as a tenured full professor of applied statistics and the director for the University of Nevada-Reno Center for Research Design and Analysis. He has more than 25 years of experience in statistical consulting and teaching SAS based applied statistics courses. He has published more than 50 refereed journal articles and served on more than 100 MS and 50 PhD thesis and dissertation research committees. He has won several best paper and poster presentation awards at the regional and international conferences.

What is your favorite training course and why?
SAS Forecast Studio two-day training course. I always enjoy seeing a satisfied student's face expression when they see the power of Forecast Studio's GUI to generate automatic statistical forecasts with confidence limits for thousands of time series data.

What is the best part about teaching?
The collaboration and support efforts I receive from my colleagues and the SAS education support team to provide the best training experience to our customers.

Do you have any hobbies, favorite activities, or hidden talents?
Hobbies: Watching South Indian and Bollywood movies and listening to Indian movie music and singing Indian songs.

What is your favorite place or dream vacation destination?
Because I left my birth place Mannar, Sri Lanka 34 years ago, I always like to visit and spend few weeks there.

What are your favorite apps (iPhone, iPad, etc.)?
Samsung Galaxy Gear (Smart watch) and it's apps

If you could share a meal with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?
My late dad, Pancras Fernandez. I wish I had more opportunity to spend some time with him in my Sri Lankan home. I only visited him three times in the last 34 years due to the past ethnic war in Sri Lanka.

What is your favorite movie, book, artist, or musician?
Artist, Carlos Santana and south Indian music composer, A. R. Rahman

What is your most memorable moment of teaching a SAS (or JMP) class?
After my SAS laptop was stolen the night before the training, successfully teaching SAS Enterprise Miner course to Apple computer analysts onsite using their apple computer in the lab.

Are you passionate about a particular sports team?
I am not a sports fan.
